I agree, OP. There's an implicit understanding between the viewers and the producers that the hoarders on the show are freaks to be gawked at.

But that's true of any reality show. And I don't think that necessarily equates with hate.

DA Oh the hoarder shows are a special breed of reality show though. It's a freak show. Fix the freak causing everyone so much hurt but we can't fix the freak. Most reality shows are NOT like that.

The few times I've seen hoarding shows I've mostly just felt really bad for them, because nobody deserves to live like that, and they clearly have psychological issues underlying their issues. As someone who has struggled with depression, I can relate with psychological issues fucking with your life, and I just want them to get the help and support they need.
