I stopped reading "high level" stuff for pleasure when I started working. I'm a software developer, so I have to read a lot of material for work with great focus. My brain is mush when I get out of work.

I still spend about 10-20 hours a week engaged with reading various materials (non-fiction and easy fiction) for fun, but I read maybe 1 actual book a year tops.

I was doing a finance job for a few years and I had to read complicated technical stuff all day (oh my eyes, the tiny numbers). When I got home the last thing I wanted was a novel.

But my amount of reading was still high. Just different stuff. Like you.

I think I once went a whole year without reading a book. And I used to read 3-5 a week. It's only recently I've gone back to the classics, now I don't have to read heavy duty stuff for work any more.
