Half-Life help?

[personal profile] diet_poison 2014-03-07 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Has anyone played Half-Life: Source on Steam?

I am in the last level, trying to beat the final boss, and my game is glitching. >:C

Everything is fine until the fourth room (or the third room twice, whatever). I bounce back to the teleporter and the first time I did this, it did the teleport cut but left me in the same room - I just fell back down from where I was. (Enemies still gone, thankfully.) This happened both times I tried fighting the boss. The second time I pressed on, and fortunately got back to the boss room when I tried the teleporter again, but then it got weird there. I tried to start shooting at the yellow crystals. Two shots with the crossbow (which is supposed to be enough to destroy one) not only didn't destroy it, but it didn't register that it had even hit it. The same thing happened with this Xen Master that started flying at me. Then it wound up behind me and I spun around to try to shoot it and the bolts still didn't register. I hit it at least twice (enough to kill a Xen Master) and it didn't die, and it also stopped moving and just kind of sat there behind me frozen. Oh, and Nihalinth keeps shooting teleporters at me (I read he was supposed to stop doing that after you've been to all four rooms?).

At that point (earlier today) I just said "fuck it" and quit, because how can I beat the boss if the game is fucked up? If I can't fix the glitch I'll just watch a video of the death and end scene, I suppose, so I can move on to HL2, but I'd really like the satisfaction of beating him myself since I worked my way through the entire game to get here (glitch-free, I might add).

Anyone have an experience like this or know where to go to find a discussion about these things? Is there maybe a cheat to get around the glitching? Google gave me nothing even similar to this situation.

Unfortunately Half-Life Source was a very half-assed port of Half-Life 1 from the Goldsrc engine to Source. Nihilanth is difficult enough in HL1.

My suggestion to you is just godmode, kill the damn thing, watch the ending, then go buy Half-Life 1 and the expansions (Opposing Force is greaaaat)

Opposing force was pretty neat.

I don't really want to re-buy a game I already have. I'm pretty sure I already have at least one expansion? *looks*

I have Deathmatch, also with Source. Do you have to go non-Source to get other expansions? :/

(also, I am a noob and don't know how to do "god-mode" or any other cheats but at this point I'll take it. I know I *could* beat the guy - well, not a guy, more of a giant floating fetus? - and honestly this fight hasn't been as hard as some of the levels in the rest of the game.)

Yes, you do. Remember, Half-Life Source is just a port of the original game to the HL2 engine.

the real expansions are blue and opposing force, where you plays as Barney and one of the Soldiers trying to kill the scientists, respectively.

Fuck that. They don't get to take this from us.

AYRT

I have no idea. But it's fandom, people also think video game characters are real and talk to them in their heads. I think there's another name for that.

I believe you're thinking about soulbonding. (Not limited to video game characters - any fictional character can apply)
