Totaly opposite here, I ship but hate portmanteaus. I suppose I can see the fun appeal of coming up with them, but overall they just annoy me.

Pretty much. What's wrong with a slash between the names. So much clearer.

i'm in your boat. i much prefer the traditional name/name or initial/initial way of designating ships.

I think there are some good ones out there, and I do like ship names, but yeah, most of them are just ridiculous.

Me too. I evetually succumbed and started using Sterek but I really hate it.

Same, some I find okay but for the most part I just think they all sound silly.

Sometimes I think up the stupidest portmanteaus with my friends just for shits and giggles.

But using portmanteaus SERIOUSLY just makes me want to punch something. Preferably those who are using portmanteaus like lungs use oxygen.

I think they can be sometimes amusing, but Name/Name is far clearer most of the time.

I think CSI had the most creative ship names. Like GSR for Grissom/Sara or Texas Hold 'Em for Nick/Warrick.

And MCU has the best ones for ease of use. Just put any two ship names together and BAM!

GSR is derived from MSR (Mulder/Scully Romance) so it's not really inventive or anything.

I thought it was a play on gunshot residue. Since they're CSIs and all.

I've always wondered what the ship name was for Tony/Loki in MCU. Toki? Lony? IronFrost?

even though i don't like portmanteaus, ironfrost is /amazing/ and if that's not the name for tony/loki, it damn well should be.

PS: My person favorite is Stark Spangled Banner. I don't ship it but that's a great name.

Otherwise they sound like celebrity baby names or diseases or something worse.

Spork - clever, Spirk - just, wow, no.

Peeniss - makes me laugh.

Stilish - thumbs up (sadly, yes, I did make the gesture to myself before typing), Sciles - sounds like a venereal disease (so does Stydia), Scisaac - sounds like a lower back issue (I mean, come on Teen Wolf Fandom! Scott's last name has 'Call' in it and Isaac's last name (Lahey) is pronounced 'lay he'! Stiles' initials are S.S. (like, say, a ship, maybe?)! We have Argent (they even spelled out in the show it meant silver) and Hale as last names, why aren't there awesome wordplay portmanteaus? (Hey, if the Sheriff had been possessed by the nogitsune, we could have had SilverFox - it would have been awesome).

I can never take Peeniss seriously. NEVER.

I love any portmanteau for a ship that involves Spike or Buffy. There's no way to make a portmanteau with one of them and NOT have it come out incredibly silly. Spuffy, Fuffy, Wuffy, Spawn, Spiles, Spander, Spangel, Bangel, and my personal favourite, Wuffara.

Portmanteaus are the best. They are so silly and so stupid and that is why I love them.

I use to hate them, but now I found them kind of endearing. And I love my current OTP portmanteau, and how it rolls out of my mouth.

I like them too!

My recent favorite is my OTP for Mass Effect: Joker + EDI = JEDI :D

I have fond memories of the time the group of slashers I hung around in HP debated ship names for Snape ships other than Snarry - Snack, Snucius, Snupin... That last one prompted icons which I wish I had copies of, that were based on Snoopy's style. Snupin was a sad-looking dog holding a bar of chocolate with the caption "Sometimes there is never enough chocolate".
