I once had a teacher who was very authoritarian and a bit of an asshole. We were in conflict for almost a year. Besides openly defying him in class, I tracked down his home number and had random people call him at late hours claiming they must have dialed the wrong number.

Don't think he ever figured it out.

In this particular case, I'll take that as a compliment.

If you'd have known him, you'd probably have cheered. Most of my class did when I stood up to him.

Standing up to him is good. Harassment or stupid pranks is not.

I don't get when people are assholes and their defense is "they're such an asshole to me first!" Like, you just said that you hated him because he was an asshole so then you're going to go and be what you hate?

I was a minor then, and still dependent on him grading me. He was in a position of power over me and the way I could stand up to him had limits, so this is basically how I didn't let him get away with it.

I wouldn't do it now anymore, because as an adult I have the luxury of calling most people assholes to their face...or better yet, cut them out of my life.

You might be reading too far into that one. There are assholes everywhere and most if not all adults run into them on a regular basis and have to figure out how to deal with them.

Yeah, they are (or they were as a teen). Doesn't change the fact that they probably meet (other) genuine assholes on a regular basis (because we all do).
