It really does! I'm also in awe of her ability to add in OCs without making them feel like OCs. Like, they all seem to slot perfectly into canon, and I really enjoy that. I also love how funny a lot of it is, even while they get increasingly darker.

(I'm also amused that apparently Living With Danger gets some flak for being the roughest written of the 'verse when it's my favourite. I just love the formation of everything so much.)

Can I ask what you don't like as much about the later series?

For one thing, the plotting feels more disjointed. There seems to be more filler, and its not always filler that seems to fit or that I enjoy reading. I find myself skimming, though I still love the stuff that actually moves the plot forward. And sometimes it feels like we're following too many characters. I'd prefer the focus to be back mostly on the mains.

And I've noticed her shoehorning in some character bashing of characters she dislikes (particularly Cho and Victor). And I really, really hate that.

I thought the thing with Cho and the twenty silver pieces was rather clever, even though the author's distaste for Cho is really obvious. Victor was even worse that way. (And I constantly feel bad for her Snape, who is hardly ever given any dignity. The only scenes I really enjoy her Snape in is when he's talking to Aletha, since he comes across more professional there...)

And gosh, yes, there's so many characters. (I have to admit to not really having followed the Amanda plot at all? Like, what was the point to it and where was the resolution?)

Honestly, for me, the thing that bothered me the most was after several books of trying to bring the houses back together, it turns out that the one good Slytherin among the Founders is... not even a Slytherin by Sorting. It just left me with a really bad taste in my mouth, like Slytherins are only good if they're not REALLY Slytherins, and only love of a person who is not a Slytherin (and is usually a Gryffindor!) can make you non-evil if you are a Slytherin. Which kinda surprised me on how many feelings I had about Alex and his true House, but it soured me on a lot of the background mythology of the story, which makes me sad.

I don't mind her Snape. But then again, I really hate Snape, so that probably has an affect. I thought the Cho thing was clever but out of character. There is no evidence that canon-Cho would have betrayed them (at least in the movie she didn't have a choice).

The Victor thing was bad. And the punishment of him by Ron left a bad taste in my mouth because it said that being attracted to "unattractive women" was a punishment. Which, ugh. Especially considering that one of the best things about canon Victor was that in spite of being a celebrity he was attracted to a girl who wasn't conventional.

Haha! And Snape is one of my favourite characters, so you're right, that's probably one of the reasons I'm more bothered than you are by his portrayal. I always feel so bad for Cho in the movie! I think there's ways for Cho to have betrayed them that could have been in character (perhaps by accident? Or by being overheard, say, arguing with Marietta?) but the way it fell out didn't really work.

*nodnodnod* Sometimes the story is pretty... weird, about attractiveness being an indicator of how good someone is. Which, I suppose, a lot of stories do but it's still uncomfortable, especially when turned around and used as a punishment.
