Things people have said that have pleasantly surprised you recently

Inspired by the annoyance thread above, but a positive version.

A family friend's daughter has just had a baby recently. Throughout her pregnancy her dad was convinced the baby was a girl, despite multiple ultrasounds clearly showing male genitalia. I was giving him a hard time about being wrong just because we always joke around and give each other shit. Anyway, his response was that having a penis doesn't necessarily mean his grandchild is a boy and it's yet to be seen what gender the kid will end up identifying as in the future. This is a guy in his 60s from a super rural southern area so I was pretty blown away.

Anyone else have anyone pleasantly surprise them lately?

Had an old friend from my teenage church youth group friend me on FB a few days ago. The church in question is really conservative, and the last I'd heard from said friend, she was enlisting, so now military, and then her profile indicated she now is employed by a couple very prominent churches, so my immediate thought was ":( Probably conservative." She's always been awesome, so I didn't think she'd be one of the conservatives that I often encounter who repeat hypocritical memes and right-wing conspiracy theories and sneer at the fact I'm in a same-sex relationship or anything, but I figured probably she leaned towards the right...

But then earlier today I made a remark about being addicted to The Daily Show and Colbert Report, and was talking with someone else about Stephen Colbert being an absolute genius... and she linked me to a really cool interview with him. :D

So regardless of whether or not our personal politics differ (and I still have no idea, because neither of us are inclined to go on about them for no reason), it's nice to know we can both appreciate a comic genius. ;)

Ha, that's cool.

Hmm, I've gotten praise from multiple sources for teaching well. It's nice to hear.

My mom's been very hesitant about me living overseas and teaching English, but recently I visited home and she told me that she thought teaching was perfect for me. "It's a great use for your sweet heart and energy." Me and mom tend to butt heads a lot so I was really touched.

Thanks. :)

Mind you, she's always supported me--but sometimes you could just feel her FIGHTING to be positive, lol. It's much more relaxing now!
