It's just that I see adversarial ships all the time. What about Buffy/Spike?

Or Dean/Alistair?

I thought the whole "I hate you I want to fuck you" thing was huge in fandom. No?

Huge, yes. Readily accepted as a fluffy domestic-type pairing? No. I don't see many people who have problems with the hate fucking, but it tends to rankle people when the pairings are presented as healthy. Buffy/Spike was really divisive that way for sure.
