Oh I have a question. Is the rivalry with Argentina really a thing? If I went to Chile (I hope I do, eventually) would some people treat me differently or badly because my Spanish sounds Argentinian?

Nope, it's not a thing. As far as I know, it's mostly a joke/played up for laughs unless there's fútbol involved. (We're such bitter losers, and "bueno, nos sacaron la cresta pero es un TRIUNFO MORAL" is the usual consolation a couple of days after a match).

There's some stereotype on people from Bs. As. being real proud and kind of douchey, and it sort of drips to the rest of Argentina, but... I hate to talk in these terms, but that's Chileans being tsunderes, it's an affectionate thing. We do that a lot - re: "weón". (Anyone taking those stereotypes seriously is just a nasty individual who you should shun anyway). If you come here some day, send me a message, I'm always up for showing people around Santiago :DD

I see. That's great to know. We have the same stereotype about porteños here, and some people do seriously mean it but one of the nicest persons I've known is a guy from Bs. As. so yeah, just confirmed the bullshit.

Oh you're in Santiago, that's cool, and thanks for the offer :* Ah, "here" is Brazil - Rio Grande do Sul to be more precise. Kinda nearby.

Those stereotypes are indeed bullshit ;D I know some sweet people from, Bs. As. too. Most Chileans know that it's bullshit as well. Just expect to be called either "The Argentinian guy/girl" or "Che-something" whether you're from Argentina, Uruguay or a Spanish-speaking Brazilian with the accent. It's not done in a mean spirit, but people here are prone to nicknaming absolutely everything >>;;;;

Yes, same anon :D It is always great to find others here. I think you're one of the only logged ones, if not the only? I've seen you mentioning your nationality a couple of times.

Yes it is. I've crossed our borders with ARG and URU many times (I used to live closer to them) and the accent I picked up is somewhere in the middle. Some people say it's Argentinian and some say it's Uruguayan. I don't really use che but that's cause I don't really use our tchê, which is our local version, either.

And ha, I don't mind those nicknames or being thought of as Argentinian or Uruguayan - was just worried about the seriousness of the stereotypes involved cause I know Brazilians say they're treated really well but I'm never picked out as Brazilian when I'm abroad.
