I try to be a nice when I'm on the phone with someone who is talking to me in a professional capacity. You got any tips other than being forthcoming with information and saying hello/please/thank you for your service?

If they say 'i have to talk to the (name) (which is generally the name on the screen we're reading off of) to take you off the list' - i really do. We have to talk to that person and tell them why we're calling and get in one 'your opinions are very valuable/we are paying 100 dollars as a token of appreciation'. If they hear that, and still say no, we're done, off the list.

But if the spouse/partner/whoever insists that 'they' wouldn't be interested and 'don't call here again/take us off the list'....we can't. Very few of the jobs allow that kind of agency - they want the person to say no, and then we're done. A lot of wives, sad to say, get really snippy and snotty and 'you can take my word for it!!' and yeah, i can, i know, but...the company can't, so sorry.

Give me one minute to read my little spiel and we're done!
