I think it was a step up from Tangled because the designs were a bit more appealing, but I miss the days when Disney did more style experimentation. In the 90s they did a lot more of trying to get the style to match the story, it varies from film to film in how successful it was but I think it's more interesting when you change it up (though my absolute favorite Disney styles are earlier then that, with Jungle Book and Sleeping Beauty.)

Disney has big issues with always trying to make everything have a "mass appeal" though, so I don't know if you'll ever see them get very stylized again, especially NOT with their female leads.

If you want interesting lead female character designs, look elsewhere. Disney will not give it to you.
