It could get backlash but I think my question there would be, do you have mutual friends? If you do not, then what is the backlash really going to do (besides be upsetting, and if you don't think you can handle that, that is totally fine; I have anxiety so I often err on the side of not pushing it)?

If you do have mutual friends, then I think the question is whether you want to risk potential drama-splosion in your group, because some people get bizarrely defensive of guys regarding anything sexual and refuse to believe that *gasp* their friend could do that, of course you must be crazy. And some would say that knowing what kind of friend would do that and ridding them from your life would be a good thing, but it's also an incredibly stressful and sad thing to go through (having been there, when I broke up with an abusive ex, and some of our mutual friends -- thankfully, very few -- refused to believe had done it).
