Late to the game

[personal profile] elephantinegrace 2014-03-09 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
I recently offered the role of a woman who tortures her own son to death. It was very uncomfortable to audition, both because I so rarely play villains (I have a high-pitched voice and a young and innocent face, so I'm almost always an ingénue, and the only reason I even got the role was because I whined to a friend who knows a director but that's beside the point) of what I was pretending to do and how well the boy playing my son screams.

My point is, you're playing a game, which means you're taking on the role of a character who is not you for entertainment purposes. My stabbing of a real boy with fake razors is no more a sign of psychopathy than your stabbing of a fake boy with fake razors, or whatever it is that's the bad option. In fact, the fact that you feel so uncomfortable about it means that even the idea of doing it is off-putting. So really, we're both extremely moral.

I'll talk more about morality after I bury the bodies of the people I just tortured to death.

That sounds like an interesting play. Can you share any details about it?

Also, burying the bodies is a waste of time and energy. If you can find a secluded swamp, just dump 'em there and the local flora and fauna will solve that little problem for you relatively quickly. If you can't find a swamp, try to find a relatively deep river, discreetly invest in some cinder blocks and chicken-wire, and let your victims take their place in the great aquatic circle of life, so to speak.

Spoilers, probably.

It's Martin MacDonaugh's "The Pillowman," modified so that the note scene becomes replaced by my character torturing a character named Michal in a flashback (allegedly), brushing Michal's brother Katurian's hair while making a confession (allegedly), and then tearfully begging Katurian not to kill me. It's really hard to explain without sounding like a lunatic.
