1. I was scared at first too! But you shouldn't let anyone discourage you from writing. Your enjoyment/lack thereof should not be based on whether someone else will disapprove.

2. KHFFR, in theory, performs a very vital function in that people can discuss whatever aspect of the KH fandom that wrinkles their pantaloons and not be napalmed for it. In theory, people can express dissenting opinions and debate them in a rational and informative matter. In theory, ideas/fics/concepts/attitudes are attacked, and not people. It's obvious that this is not always the case, but this is one of those situations where you just have to go LOL INTERNET and either read or don't. Not everyone's a jerk, not everyone practices what they preach (lol can of worms OPEN), and really - the place is good for lulz and an eyeroll from time to time. Just don't take it seriously, is all.

3. I do not know what you mean by 'empire,' as the active memberbase of KHFFR/H_F/whathaveyou comprises a very small segment of the fandom. I doubt most of them even write fic/draw. So again, do not be intimidated!

Uh... I think that's it. Sorry if this comes across as being condescending; it's not intentional. I just want to convey that I know where you're coming from, is all.

Thank you for this, especially point #2, because it's essentially everything I wanted to say except expressed in a thoughtful and articulate manner, whereas I would have just WTF'd and bitchslapped the OP for allowing the opinions of a small group hinder them from writing for so long. OP, if you're reading this, we should get together and watch Little Miss Sunshine and then make a pact to DO WHAT WE LOVE AND FUCK THE REST. I mean, I have my personal issues with khffr which we need not go into, but seriously, who cares? People will do what they want: for us it's writing fic and for them it's ranting about it (ugh, us-them complex, someone stop me). The pitfall of the Internet has always been giving too much of a shit about what other people get up to, when really, none of it really matters. Less stress, more fic, I need to get through exam season and massive wank just isn't cutting it.

I think the us/them aspect is rather valid in this case, but it really gets messy when you go on to consider who qualifies as a "fanbrat" and who doesn't. I think this is where the accusations of KHFFR being a RARRG HIVEMIND have their basis. Not that the defensiveness and hostility in some of the comments are really helping the case, but oh well!

In all honesty, this is my second fandom ever. That might have been partly why I felt intimidated. *shrug*

My various problems with that comm are very case-specific, and none of it is actually personal anyway, so ever since I found out about its existence I've been generally trying to steer clear of that neck of fandom. Just as well, I'm the kind of chick that likes high school AUs and lulz before prose, it's all for the best. Hey, if I need to feel better about myself, I can always whore for reviews instead of taking the piss out of these so-called "fanbrats" -- whatever makes us happy.

KH is my second fandom, too, but my friends from the old circles have all been really nice about it. I'm sure I pain them though, deep inside.
