I don't know what book you read, but it apparently wasn't HalfBlood Prince. Hermione spends almost the entire book doing her level best to make Ron feel like crap, and Ron rather responds in kind. Hermione physically attacks him. Twice. I don't know what kind of horrible world you're living in when your friends get into arguements that result in blood being drawn because someone can't control their tempter or where where they always do stupid petty stuff like trying belittling each other in front of other people.
Maybe I just had good friends. Y'know, they kind who were nice.

I didn't have an OTP with Harry Potter. I don't care who hooks up with who, it just really bothered me that Ron/Hermione was presented as this cute, acceptable relationship and that you could see it coming from the first or second book like a train wreck.

I'm not enraged. I'm vehement on this one because I'm a Potter fan. I'm a nerd. It's what we do.

You're an only child aren't you? I ask that because siblings often get into physical fights with each other when they're young (and sometimes when they're not young). That doesn't mean they don't love each other though, nor does it mean they don't get along 99% of the time.

btw, if you want a good example of a really wrong relationship. Read CLAMP; especially Tokyo Babylon and X.

I've got two siblings, actually. We have had our tussels. No blood. But we're a violent little brood. Especially my little sister. I've stopped picking fights with her. She's all sharp corners and karate techniques these days.

So...you're comparing what Hermione did to Ron to the way siblings fight? Because if that's the case, then yes, I agree. They way they act would be more appropriate to siblings than to potential lovers. Because there is a HUGE difference between sibling-type love and romantic love.

Someone else keeps bringing up the point, but I think it's valid. If Ron had been the one to send canaries after Hermione and cut her face up, or start pounding on her because he was upset...would that have been okay?

Are you under the impression that people can only have romantic feelings for each other if they get along perfectly and always talk through their problems like they're in therapy?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but not only does love not always fit in that lovely little box you'd like it to, it also makes people act like fucking morons, especially when they're jealous.

You can't deem it abuse just because you don't like it.

The canaries incident? Yes (not that I think Ron would, since Ron simply isn't like that). All throughout the series we've seen both males and females cursing each other for jokes, revenge, protection and simply because they don't like the other person. I find what Hermione did to Ron to be no different from the time when Ron tried cursing Draco with slugs. Actually I think that Hermione had even more reason to curse Ron than Ron cursing Draco. Yes, what Draco said was racist but it's Draco they already hated him and knew he is a pompous little ass (hey, I like Draco but it's true). Ron however is Hermione's friend and he was purposely trying to hurt her; I think she felt betrayed by his actions. Maybe it's just me but I would take more offense to a friend betraying me than being called a racist term by someone I hated.

As for what happened in DH, tension is high, they're in a middle of a war and have been in a life or death situation ever since Dumbledore died. I think when Ron left the group, Hermione thought she would never see him alive again. It doesn't excuse her actions but explains why she did it. Remember, they're just kids and have been forced into a situation where they, their loved ones and everyone else will die if they fail.
