For real, though. The person that can hurt me the most is the one closest to me. It's a fact of life. I'm more sensitive to that person. Anyone off the street could say something mean and nasty and it wouldn't bother me, but if this one person was having an off day and snapped, it would hurt a lot more.

Ron and Hermione spent a lot of time learning about how they affected one another. In the end, they saw that lashing out from perceived slights wasn't the way to go to have a good relationship. Ron picked up a book to help him understand females better (and there is nothing sinister and evil about a frickin' self-help book!) and Hermione stopped trying to hide her feelings from him. It resulted in open praise, affection, and a relationship that lasted at least over 19 years.

They never once had a romantic relationship while being snotty with each other. They waited for the right time. When maturity made them realize their mistakes. This is a good thing. This is a good model. The other stuff...from when they were children..not a good model, but that's why they didn't date back then.
