Native American headdress

(Anonymous) 2014-03-09 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Why are people so eager to defend a symbol that represents killers and murders, and was denied to women who did those roles.

May as well defend the iron cross whilst we're at it?

???

Though I kind of have to work to make myself offended by little kids wearing headdresses on Halloween or whatever, I don't even understand your troll argument. Pretty sure the headdress was worn by warriors?

...

It's a war bonnet.

...is that different than what I said? war = warriors?

Are you offended at someone confirming what you said?

OP is saying that no one should defend the sanctity of the Native American headdress because it is a "symbol that represents killers and murders, and was denied to women who did those roles". The fact that it was worn by warriors is why OP is objecting to it. They're comparing it to the Iron Cross. It's a really awful thing to say and if they weren't so clearly a troll I would be a bit miffed.

Not to play with the troll but are women denied the war bonnet?

Have there been any known Native American women warriors? Hell, I grew up in this country and I can't think of any warriors. Leaders, pioneers, yes. Warriors? No.

The Iron Cross was better - at least women were allowed to wear it.

ah, the ol' "replying to self so people will think someone agrees with me, and then if I get called out on it I'll just go 'lol I'm not them ur stoopid to think so'" trick, eh?

No I'm not OP and I meant it sarcastically, but my phone dropped the /sarcasm because it hates me :(

"May as well defend the iron cross whilst we're at it?"

Next time you try to stir shit up, it'd probably be wise to do a bit of research first.

That's deep, man. That's super-deep. Geologists are gonna call you up all wanting in on this core sample of a lifetime, that's so deep.

I think you've beaten them. Well done.

Re: Native American headdress

(Anonymous) 2014-03-09 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure. Let's defend the iron cross. It's a military decoration dating back to 1813.

If you're opposed to all symbols of war and warriors, then yes, the war bonnet headdress falls into that category. So do a million other things.

Clearly u are a troll

but that does remind me that I am a bit sadface about the headdress stuff...bc they are really neato designs and I love feathers, so if I could wear a feathery sort of hat to a fancy dress party I definitely would, but I don't want to wear a religious thing casually (I know it kinda bothers me when people misuse the Cross) and it seems like it's that. I think a lot of 'cultural appropriation' stuff is bunk, segregation in another outfit, but there is a place I draw the line and religious significance is it.
