I'll try to sell the lesser-known stuff, I guess.

Rivers of London. You should check it out because it has a wonderful POC protagonist, because Thomas 'Sorry, Was This Your Tiger Tank?' Nightingale is an actual quotation from the book, and because that's how all the events are narrated:

“Being a seasoned Londoner, Martin gave the body the “London once-over” - a quick glance to determine whether this was a drunk, a crazy or a human being in distress. The fact that it was entirely possible for someone to be all three simultaneously is why good-Samaritanism in London is considered an extreme sport - like BASE jumping or crocodile wrestling.”

Murder Rooms TV&book series. It has a scene where character A very nearly slaughters character B with a Sheffield knife, only to be prevented from doing so by character B's starting to strangle them, after which character B apologizes to character A for "depriving [them] of oxygen" and they are both very happy to see each other. This does NOT happen in wartime/during a zombie apocalypse. They are just like that. They are best friends, too.

Other than that, a part of this canon - a detective noir series of novels - has genuine ciphers in it (the process of deciphering the stuff is described in detail).

HOUN with Richardson. It's not the best Holmes adaptation out there, but it has a Holmes who constantly smiles the warmest smile ever. Period.
