(Anonymous) 2014-03-09 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)I liked them all fine, but Wufei seemed to be the most ruthless and violent, and wasn't ever really portrayed as sympathetic like Heero was (who was also pretty ruthless and violent). I guess Wufei also has the huge disadvantage of not having an obvious slash-mate. Heero/Duo, Trowa/Quatre and... Wufei. But Quatre's wiki page says he was ranked lower than the others among fan favorite polls. I guess it depends on where in fandom you go - I was a little late to the fandom (probably there mid-2000s?) and I didn't involve myself a lot besides writing a few fanfics, so I can't say.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-09 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)A lot of the problem is that they weren't able to get Episode Zero animated so instead we got those two clipshow episodes. Episode Zero goes into a bit of detail about the pilots lives before Operation Meteor and Wufei's in particular gives insight into his motivations for fighting. I think he was pretty sympathetic when his colony got blown up tbh. There's a lot of reasons why someone might not like them but a lot of them are blown way out of proportion. And yeah, he doesn't have an obvious slash-mate. 2x5 was relatively popular though. I ship him with the other four pilots.
I've heard that Quatre isn't particulatrly popular with the Japanese fandom. Outside of fujoshi, that is. Take that with a grain of salt though. I'm not sure how true it is. I was really late to the fandom, but from what I've seen Quate was popular on the English side of fandom.

Yes, 13X5 is what I was going for, thanks Nonny!
