Hi guys,

Does anyone know some decent longfic (canon-divergent, please) AU about Harry? I would prefer gen, but shippy's cool as long as it's an actual plotty fic as opposed to just mindless smut or romance.

Fics starting pre-series would he loved. Thank you!

It's very long and not to everyone's tastes, but Lightning on the Wave's Sacrifices arc is an all time favorite of mine. It's 7 full length books written with the premise that Harry was born with a twin who was thought to be the boy who lived. And then lots of other stuff. I love it :)

OP: oh, awesome. I generally don't care for twin!Harry fics, but I'm enjoying this one. Thanks for the rec, anon!

Hoorah! I hope you continue to enjoy it :) It has some pretty incredible world building, with full blown mythologies and magic systems, etc., which I think is awesome. I've reread it several times, and every time I am impressed!

May not suit you because it's a) not pre-series and b) not entirely Harry-centric. But see if any of this interests you:

Sirius stays in England after the end of third year and becomes a more proactive figure in Harry's life. The story pretty much starts with him managing to clear his name and adopt Harry, and Harry's life from there diverges a bit from canon. Some canon events still happen, like his getting entered into the Triwizard Tournament etc, but the way things play out are definitely different.

The fic uses various characters's POVs when necessary (don't worry, it's done well), so you'll get some parts from Remus' POV, etc. It's pretty centrally focused on Sirius and Harry (and most if not all of Sirius' motivations boil down to "Harry") though - I usually only read Harry-centric fic myself, and I've really enjoyed this so far.

Sweet, thanks! Nah, that's plenty Harry-centric enough for me. I was more meaning I didn't want, like, Marauders-era fic or Weasley fic or anything.

If you don't mind crazy crossovers, try littlewhitecat's Inquisitor Carrow fics. They;re a Warhammer 40K crossover where Harry was transported into the future, raised to be an Imperium Inquisitor, and then in a fight with an Eldar witch, gets sent back to his origin time. It's hilarious for the culture clash between a space marine of the Imperium of Man and the Wizarding World. No romance happening as of chapter 6 of the second fic.
