NAYRT, but I think that, even if it's true fan culture had a much earlier starting point, the people who were active in the scene back in those days were on the young side at the time. They may still be in fandom now, in their older years, but they entered it when they were probably not that much older than the typical tumblrite today. People who first encounter fandom as older adults have a more difficult time accepting it.

Have it your way, but of all the people I've met over the years who mention having been in fandom as early as the 70's, none were themselves in their 70's or anything. They joined fandom as young adults.
