Re: Sell us your fandom!
Well it's 1POV but you can change the FOV and bob head amount at will. You can climb nearly fucking everything and crawl and run and there's all kinds of hidey holes just waiting to be found. For example I'm clocking over 100 hours and I STILL HAVEN'T FOUND the old boatman who gives you a krust (plant) mission even though I know the area and time of where to find him.
It's a bunch of selfcontained areas that are just...open for exploration. Also the story isn't too long which I appreciate. My first game was 60 hours, second 30 hours and now I can do it in less than 5 hours when I'm looking for something.
The aesthetics are gorgeous, it's got a washed out style to it. The entire world looks a bit like a dull painting. It's fresh after all the hyper realism bright worlds like skyrim.
I suppose the major defining point is choice - you don't even need to go to extremes to see changes. The basic is killing people = higher chaos because this is a plague ridden city and now even more people are dying. That guard you killed? Fed a rat family that multiplied, starved his family, no source of income the wife has killed her child and is now a weeper (kind of zombie) wandering around.
The characters are interesting to varying degrees. Emily, the child you need to rescue, is rather convincing as a child.
There's a giant, passive deity that may or may not be a whale.
You can eat nearly everything.
You can win the game by killing e v e r y o n e...but you can also win the game without killing a single soul (dogs count here)...and of course any variation in between.
The fandom is fun! I flitter in and out depending on my mood. Right now it's a beehive, there's been rumours/leaks of a Dishonored 2 and there's been a confirmed announcement of an artbook. So it's a bit buzzy right now, renewed interest and all that.
I havene't paid much attention to it, but there's shipping and the like. Daud/someone seems to be the most popular. Wank is pretty low, I'm aware it happens every now and then but we can go months without anything happening and the wank that does happen is positively small. Off the top of my head I can think of a small one where someone ?accidentally? insulted someone's AU and there was a minor tiff over that...another time someone tried to bash on a pairing and got smacked down basically (I don't like the particular pairing either but going into the tag and just telling people to stop shipping what they ship is stupid as fuck)...and I had a minor clash with another fanartist one time that was interesting haha.
BTW my fandom experience is mostly in tumblr on #dishonored - which has extended to a DW kinkmeme and some chat websites that I find dull. So it's still pretty small, like just under <50 regulars I'd guess but when something is busy a good 300-700+ can come out of the woodwork.
Right now it's mostly AUs and OCs as we wait on Dishonored 2 confirmation/denial.
