Evangelion!

- Hey Destiel fans, are you upset that the character with daddy issues and low self-esteem will never have romantic feelings for the angel dude? Well, now you have that in Eva! ....even if it doesn't last very long

- Lots of awesome and well-developed female characters! They're shown to be real people with moments of strength as well as serious flaws. Misato, Ritsuko, Asuka, and Rei are all fantastic characters...even if all their lives suck.

- Tired of characters like Eren Jaeger who are always ready to kill whatever is in their path? Want a character that is actually SCARED to take on humanity's problems? Meet Shinji Ikari! He is very unsure of himself and has very low self-esteem and constantly has to tell himself not to run away.

- The best part about Eva is that NO ONE fully understands Eva, so you feel united with the fandom in terms of the "what the fuck just happened"-ness. Because there are so many competing theories, you get to read lots of interesting meta of what might be the case.

- Eva is pretty much a staple anime, so pretty much every anime fan you talk to will have heard of it. Also, there's a lot of fanart for it because, even if someone isn't really in the fandom, they've probably drawn one of the Eva pilots at some point.

- "But wait," you say, "Eva is an old anime. Isn't it finished?" Nope, there's still the ongoing Rebuild movies where the animation is much better/flashier. Even one Rebuild ends, there will probably be something else after it. Eva is the franchise that lasts for ever. There's an anime, an alternate ending, a reboot series, a manga, manga AUs, games, and doujins to keep you company.

- Also, if you're ever hating on your parents, Gendo Ikari will remind you that it can be a lot worse.

Oh my god, I laughed so hard. I can just imagine some dude on the internet whining to this comic artist about how deep and meaningful Eva is while hugging his Asuka dakimakura.

I think if you squint at character wangst and superficial occultism hard enough just about everything looks meaningful.

For Eva, I think the characters are well-developed and interesting, and I like how it doesn't fall into a ton of the typical anime cliches (at least in the original series), but all the biblical mumbo jumbo is a bit much.
