Oh, come on...

On 26th Feb my computer refused to turn back on after shutting off in response to the power going out. My brother diagnosed it as a problem with the power supply unit. We bought a new one, the exact same model in fact, the next day and my brother installed it. My computer worked perfectly after that.

Until today. I was just playing RuneScape, trying to do a quest and my computer shut itself off. I checked I hadn't accidentally tugged the cable out with my foot, checked the position of the main power switch on the back of the computer, and hit the power button. No response.

My brother had another look at it. He changed the power lead over for a spare one, because he couldn't be bothered to check the fuse. When he turned the power on at the wall socket there were blue sparks given off by the computer-end of the lead/the PSU (all he said was "blue sparks" and not where they were from). He says this is a sign that the PSU is knackered.

I am, quite understandably, pissed off. 11 days! I'm a complete ignoramus about this stuff, but I'm sure that computer components are meant to last longer than that. Even worse, I can't do anything about replacing it until Thursday. I literally only have enough money to get to the jobcentre tomorrow currently, plus that's the first day my dad will have enough time before work to take me to where I bought this PSU. My brother wants me to get a refund on the PSU and get a more powerful one (a 600 instead of a 500, I think).

Sorry for the rambling. Am pissed off and trying not to rant. If the computer had gone belly up a few minutes earlier, when I was trying to navigate a room and destroy enemy cannons that were firing at me, or a little later once I got into the quest's boss fight, I would have been even more annoyed.

tl;dr, a component for my computer was replaced less than a fortnight ago and gave up the ghost again today.

Hmm. Do you still have old power supply by any chance, and do you have another computer that you could try it on (I wouldn't suggest that testing on the new so, since it was sparking)? Or, assuming there is another computer, could you take it to PSU and see if it works on your computer?

Since you had the same crashes with two different PSU, this could be another problem. A dying motherboard has a lot of the same symptoms as the dying PSU.
