But the thing was, it wasn't really that traumatic? She didn't even know he was dead (in the canon game). She calls him her first love, but also says it was nothing serious and that he was a womanizer - all while constantly flirting with Cloud. When you go to Gongaga and she does find out he's dead, she runs off kind of upset, but then asks Cloud if he's jealous, and (if her affection is high enough) says she hopes Cloud is jealous. I know they retconned in Crisis Core and had her sense that Zack was dead ... or maybe it's not a retcon, maybe she just got the sense that something was off and she never heard real confirmation. But over the course of the game, there doesn't seem to be a big sense that she's particularly bothered about her boyfriend from five years ago.

Well, you do get the impression that she wasn't as calm about his disappearance as she said she was if you have her with you when you go to Zack's parents' house in Gongaga - she runs outside, unable to deal with it. I think even if it weren't all that serious a relationship, knowing that a former boyfriend disappeared and is probably dead would really bother you.

Oh, I'm not disagreeing that it bothered her. She just doesn't seem traumatized. She was obviously sad and upset to hear that he died. But still, in the same conversation after she runs off and explains Zack was her first love, she immediately bounces back and starts flirting with Cloud. I'd say it's also Aeris's personality to keep what bothers her on the inside and address issues with optimism, so maybe it did bother her more than she let on. But Aeris just doesn't seem that caught up about Zack in the game, if she takes an opportunity to explain her teenage kind-of boyfriend's death to flirt with the guy she's currently interested in.

Oops, ngl, I completely forgot about that. Well, I guess there really is no excuse
