I'm not sure what this has to do with anything. Nobody's saying that fandom isn't bigger or more mainstream now. All people are saying is that fandom isn't a new concept that only young people can understand. It's a fairly old concept and before the internet boom, plenty of older people were in it and they're still in it now. So it's foolish to suggest that old people don't understand fandom now.
