The prevalence of Aragorn/Legolas was the reason I didn't get into the fandom until 2004. I ended up reading it, but I had to go through the whole range of Elfslash to get there first.

But while I don't mind Legolas/Gimli, it was never one of my favourites. Still isn't, even now, maybe because I never truly connected with those two.

That might be why, then. Legolas and Gimli were always two of my favorite characters, and I have a huge thing for pairings where two characters grow from hating each other to loving each other (above all else). Then there's the inter-species part of it, which just makes it all the more interesting and appealing to me.

No pairing is for everyone, but it does sometimes bum me out when I think of how good those two were, and how little fic there is. *sigh*

Lol, Legolas/Gimli is why I got into the fandom. It was the height of my slash goggles phase and they were on a horse together. I read all the fics and the books just for them. It's a little awkward when RL people ask me if I like Tolkien.
