Yes! Overlord was really made by the writing.
I will fight all of you over that!

(okay, so I was also drawn to it by the cute minions, but seriously these games are hilarious. And never stupidly so. There's quite a lot of cheek beneath the clichés).

(excuse me, I don't have spell-check on this browser and I'm drunk and ESL and it's late over here, but I LOVE these games)

RE: B!S: I kind of feel that way too. It's especially weird when it's brought up in regards to perceived misogyny or sexism in Tomb Raider and the like.

Overlord was not my cup of tea. However, I think that you are correct in the last part, particularly since many of the games with which she is associated are otherwise well-regarded.

WHAT NO IS THE NEW THIEF TERRIBLE? Because I'm super hyped to play it even with all the changes that were brought up before the release, but since I don't yet have the money I've been avoiding any updated info. Is it bad? :(

I really loved Overlord, though. It was fun and silly and a great break from what I was playing around that time. There were definitely flaws to the game as a whole, but writing was not one of them.

The new Thief got 68 on Metacritic. There's agreement the writing is horrendous, but folks are divided on whether the gameplay is a good update or a failure. (Also, it bugs out way more on some computers than others.)

I heard they got rid of the Pagans and the Hammerites. Is that true? If so, I'm rather disappointed. I haven't played much of the older games, but I always thought they were cool.
Actually, I heard there were a lot of retcons in general.

All those retcons are what I'm nervous about...They changed the setting pretty drastically, so I wouldn't be surprised if the factions are gone. Sad day!

Ah well, I'll wait until it's really cheap and see for myself, I suppose.

Yeah they did. Don't ditch the game completely, though. I'm a hardcore Thief fan and I can still enjoy this new game on its own merits. Gameplay is solid and satisfying - 7/10 for me. If you don't view it as strictly a game in the Thief mythology, it might be easier.

I'm just so bored with women games creators/reviewers coming in for flack just because they're women. Every time a woman reviews a game on Eurogamer there 25% of the comments underneath are about her being female, not about the review itself. I went on Eurogamer yesterday and was delighted to see a new game reviewed I really wanted them to review. Then, pah, the comments beneath about the reviewer.

I haven't played Overlord but it's depressingly easy to believe the latter part of your secret.
