After reading the book I was baffled that no one else was bothered by the wife-beating part. I get it, it's historically accurate, that was not the issue. The issue was that Claire was to quick to forgive him, and an English educated woman from the 20th century in a loving relationship with a kind hearted man would not excuse such a thing. That really pissed me off! That and the fact that Jamie was so cocky about being turned on by her fighting him off. Asshole.

IIRC though, she forgave him immediately before or after setting his own dirk to his sternum and informing him that if he ever raised a hand to her again, she would cut out his heart and fry it for breakfast.
