Is he skiing, or is he in a gay porn?

[personal profile] elephantinegrace 2014-03-11 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought The Name of the Doctor sucked, which nobody on my LiveJournal appears to agree with, and saying that I thought the second Neil Gaiman episode was boring got me flamed off of Tumblr for about a week. So, you know, you're not alone in wondering if you're just bad at following plots or if there's no plot.

(PS, yes, the comment title is a reference to Bo Burnham.)

It must just be your lj friends because there are a lot of us who hated Name of the Doctor, I've even seen some well written essays on exactly why it was so disappointing.

And I like Neil Gaiman but people need to get off his dick and stop pretending like all his writing is perfection. Neither of his Who episodes blew me away, they both had good bits and probably looked better then they were in comparison to some of the episodes that aired in both those series, but I could see how someone could find one of them boring.

I thought the second Neil Gaiman episode was boring

I'll drink to that.

Dude, I read the synopsis for Nightmare in Silver, and I was still confused. I'm convinced it was edited severely after Gaiman handed it in. Either that, or he's drinking the Kool-Aid that this is all people want to watch, now, and he wrote it in "the style of Moffat" or smth.....

I thought the second Gaiman episode was okay, but mostly just because I liked the Cyberman-Doctor bits and Warwick Davies. The rest of it was boring, though. Not nearly up to the quality of the first.

Apparently, the episode was severely edited to its own detriment, which I don't care about because the final product was still pretty bad.

Thank you! Precisely one person agreed with me, and everyone else said I was racist or ageist because of the two black kids. And then I was just so tired that I unfollowed nearly everyone.

Ugh, I don't blame you. You'd think it'd be open invitation to dislike those two kids (or at least Gaiman for writing them) just based on the sheer brattiness that radiated from them.

Although I will say this on the sexism side of things: I'm tired of having two siblings (older sister, younger brother), where the sister is the bratty, vain one who only cares about texting people on her phone and the brother is the slightly-too-eager one who fucks shit up but is ultimately forgivable because at least he's open to adventure.

It was obnoxious the first time someone put it to paper, and it hasn't improved since.

Just the premise for it was terrible. "Hey, we found a picture of a woman in the Victorian era who looks exactly like our nanny. That must mean she is our nanny and our nanny is a time-traveler."

Yes, that would be my first thought when I come across an old photograph of someone who looks like somebody I know, too. And I would completely believe a child who threatened to blackmail me wih it.

Sadly, that was the best part of the episode. At least that implausibility made me laugh.

I thought both Gaiman episodes were terrible.

I agree with both your opinions. Sadly.
