I started watching this show last night. The look of the show is charming, the characters are nice, the story line is up my alley, the opening song is really cool. Then the brother character started acting weird about the sister character and I see in the episode synopses that a plot point is that they're not blood relatives. That kind of thing always pisses me off because it assumes that only blood relatives can have familial connections so of coooourse adopted brother & sister would have UST. What the hell is that logic? I'm thinking about quitting while I'm ahead.

Iirc, one of them is related to her. It's been so long since I've watched it though so not sure. Penguindrum was such mess.

No, neither of the boys is related to Himari. Masako's Kanba's actual sister, though.

My bad. Could have sworn that the blue-haired one whose name escapes me was her biological brother.

Their parents were Shouma's biological parents, but yeah, none of the siblings are related by blood. Shouma was just the one who found Himari when she was abandoned.

Oooh thank, I might just have give it a rewatch then. And Sanetoshi was the best thing about that show imo.

I haven't watched Penguindrum, but I was a fan of Kunihiko Ikuhara's other work, Revolutionary Girl Utena. Utena featured multiple incestuous relationships and showed how unhealthy they were. Ikuhara seems to enjoy exploring incest as a theme.

I don't think the series says that at all, actually. The series never states either way if Himari loves Kanba just as her brother or as something more than that. Plus Shouma's not related to Himari either and he clearly feels for her as his sister rather than being in love with her. (And this being Ikuhara, I don't think Kanba's feelings would be any different even if they were blood-related, especially considering Masako.)
