Yeah but it doesn't make it more pleasant to watch a character who seems pissed 24/7.

She didn't start out that way. The writing for her character got more and more extreme as the show went on. I think all of the characters were more likable in the first season.

They really were. Ray was always a flake, but he genuinely appreciated and wanted to spend time with his family, and Debra was impatient sometimes, but she was more the voice of reason instead of the voice of rage.

dear god, marie and frank were some of my least favorite sitcom parents/grandparents; they were just terrible. apparently marie was based on the mother of one of the show's producers too...hopefully very loosely
