So excited. I'm looking forward to it more closely following the manga, but I hope it still does its own thing too.

I'm worried about following the manga too closely. Because, let's be honest here, the manga had a lot of pacing issues and outside of Usagi hardly anyone had much characterization or development.

+1 I like the manga but it lacked a lot. The villains and other senshi got a lot more development in the first anime and to be honest they're what I watched Sailor Moon for.

I want them to follow the overall plot for the manga but it'd be nice if they expanded on what Naoko didn't.

I really liked that about the first anime too. It had its issues with characterization as well such as Usagi being much more of a crybaby, but overall I really enjoyed how the characters were fleshed out. Especially the villains like Nephrite and Queen Nehellenia.

I'd love for them to spend more time on wordbuilding this time around as well.

Yep, I'd never claim the characterization in the original anime is spot on with the manga, but in some cases they were basically making up a character anyway because Naoko gave them so little to work with (that and the manga was still ongoing back then, so a lot of changes were made in order to keep the production schedule of the anime on track.) I also liked some of the anime changes and can't say which I prefer (Rei is a case where I like both her anime and manga personalities.)

World building would be good, I'd love it if they spent a little more time away from earth like they did in the manga.

Nor would I. I've got some issues with how some of them were characterized in the anime, but overall I enjoyed the anime's take. I think that for the most part, I enjoy Rei more in the anime than the manga. If only slightly more.

I'd love to learn much more about the history of the Silver Millennium.

I always felt the opposite, actually--I always felt the manga gave the main cast more thorough development and characterization.

The early-series villains were a lot more interesting in the anime, though, and I hope they give them a mix of their anime and manga backstories--I liked that they worked for Endymion in the Silver Millennium in the manga, but I liked their personalities and relationships in the anime (and Nephrite and Naru's relationship still gives me the feels even 20 years later).

(I liked Nehellania and Galaxia and their crowds better in the manga, though.)

I will admit that in certain cases, the manga did develop the main senshi a bit better than the anime such as Rei and Minako but for the most part they are rather one dimensional in the manga. The manga didn't have enough time to focus on them and develop them much.

Nephrite's death scene still gets to me. That whole parfait bit is just a tearjearker. I think on the whole, the anime developed the villains much better. Can't really think of a villain the manga did better.

Actually, you know what villains I hope they keep in the new anime? I really want to see Ail and An back again. They were never in the manga, of course, but they were my favorite Sailor Moon villains as a kid.

Oooh, I really loved them and was saddened to find out that they weren't in the mamga. Speaking of anime original villains, I really loved Fiore from the first movie. He was gorgeous and I loved how yandere he was for Mamoru.

My favorite villain will always be Queen Nehellenia. I will admit that it is mostly because I'm shallow and find her to be absolutely gorgeous. I hope the new anime inspires a lot of fanart for her. She has very little.

I'm kinda hoping that the new anime will inspire a spinoff featuring Chibiusa and the Amazoness Quartet as the main senshi.

I actually really want to know more about Fiore because he seems to be the same species as Ail and An. I'm curious if there's more backstory!

Nehellania is my favorite too. I like that she's kind of the flipside of the White Moon family. I like duality :P

Also YES I have always wanted a spinoff featuring Chibiusa in the future! It's actually pretty rare to find any fanfics about her and the Amazoness Quartet--it's always her, and a gaggle of Neo Senshi for all the other planets. Which can be really cool but I really like the Amazoness Quartet.

Tbh,, I'm pretty sure he is the same species as they are. Either that or they got lazy and reused character designs. I'd love to know more about their homeworld and people too. I just want more Fiore. :3

I think that's what appealed to me the most about her as well. The yin-yang between her and Usagi.

I'm not the biggest fan of Chibiusa tbh, but I'd watch that spinoff so hard! Especially if it is whrn she is a bit older. I'd be mainly in it for the Amazoness Quartet though. My favorite is CereCere. Shes just gorgeous and I really love her personality. God, I'm so shallow. But good god, it is hard not to be sonce this seris is full of so many pretty girls and beautiful women.

I like the Chibiusa from the manga. I feel like she developed better there. But I totally agree about watching it for the Quartet. Cerecere is my favorite too XD

Chibiusa was better in the manga, but I still don't care for her much. Her romance with Helios/Pegasus was adorable though.

CereCere was the best, but they are all so incredibly awesome. I want more of them.

Nephrite and Naru. I still can't watch that without tearing up. Kunzite/Zoicite was my very first m/m ship, and I still ship it.

I think if you're a Sailor Moon fan who doesn't get overwhelmed with A Serious Case of The Feels about Nephrite and Naru, you must have a heart of stone, hahahaha XD

Re: Sailor Moon Reboot news

(Anonymous) 2014-03-14 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Me too. One of the main problems I have with the manga is that it overemphasizes Usagi's and Mamoru's miracle romance a bit too much. I mean, different strokes for different folks, but it's probably one of my least favorite aspects of the series and I'd rather see more of the other characters.

Re: Sailor Moon Reboot news

(Anonymous) 2014-03-14 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
DA. Usagi and Mamoru's romance was always the least interesting part of Sailor Moon to me, I liked them as characters sure, but I didn't really care about their romance at all.

I remember being surprised to learn I had a friend who quit watching the anime after Usagi and Mamoru got together because she said that was the only reason she was watching. I honestly didn't understand because I thought everyone was in it for the senshi, not the romance (I think my exact reaction to her was, "But... but... outer senshi!!!???")

Re: Sailor Moon Reboot news

I just don't get that mindset. I mean the anime doesn't even do that great of a job with their relationship in the first place so if you want romance it's not exactly the best show for that.
I wish everyone was in it for the senshi because then I could actually find fanfic that I would want to read. Instead it's mostly 'Usagi starts falling for Mamoru'~
Never mind that the other characters are much more interesting.

Re: Sailor Moon Reboot news

Ayrt

I didn't care for their romamce much either and I would have loved for the emphasis on their romance to be toned down a bit. A little of the time devoted to it could have been spent devoted to character development.

I agree.

The characterization is one of the reasons I want the new anime to do its own thing. Just having an animated carbon copy would be boring, but did like some of the plot elements, like the Shitennou having once been Endymion's gaurdians.

Re: Sailor Moon Reboot news

(Anonymous) 2014-03-14 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, okay. We're on the same page then. The Shitennou being Mamoru's guardians is from the manga though.

I apologize for my comment then. It was kinda rude.
