stupid question

(Anonymous) 2014-03-14 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, I went to sassysprinkle's tumblr after someone mentioned it here, and it reminded me of something I was wondering about. What does mayo have to do with white people? I've seen this joke/meme/sjw argument before and I don't get it. Do only white people eat mayo or something? I'm white and don't eat mayo. Nobody in my family eats it.

I've always thought it was because mayo is... also white?

Which is really stupid and probably not the reason, now that I think about it...

Hahahaha. Assuming you're being serious, it's because mayo is white.

My whiteness probably comes from eating mayo. You are what you eat, therefore I am mayonnaise. And tofu. Jesus, that's white, too!

White.. And plain

and un-unique, and generic.

The implication being that white is bad. You know, cause Racism.

It's a bland white condiment that's just sort of there, and everyone assumes that it's normal to just stick it on everything unless asked not to.

I have problems ordering hamburgers sometimes.

It depends on the food. I love mayo on turkey sandwiches, and I can't eat tuna fish without it.

Wherever I've lived, I always have to ask for mayo on my burger. It's never an automatic topping.

you and I should switch burger places. I can't stand the stuff, am always telling people to leave it off, and usually they ignore me and put about 18 tablespoons of it on. yech

I usually ask (at least when I am eating at a restaurant for the first time) as I really do not like mayo. On anything.

...this sounds very much like all of Japan.

*eats her fruit salad with mayonnaise*

(for the record. White. And I can't stand mayo, but everything in today's school lunch had mayo in it for White Day.)

Because it's white, guys?? Oh man, mayo is yellowish here, so I would never have thought of it o.O

It's often paired with Wonder Bread, which, like mayo, is white and bland. Just like white people, donchano?

Also, non-white people have EXCITING food, like tacos, and collared greens, and sushi! White folks only have their bland white food.

I think that covers all the...ah...reasonings.

WHITE PEOPLE HAVE COLLARED GREENS, WHAT YOU TALKING ABOUT? THAT SHIT IS DELICIOUS, ESPECIALLY WITH THE GREEN PEPPER SAUCE THING YOU GET AT RESTAURANTS.

APPROPRIATION!

Re: stupid question

(Anonymous) 2014-03-14 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I was always so confused about that because to me, mayo is light yellow and not white. I'm also not american so I never understood it. I always assumed it's because it might be the height of culinary endeavors in a stereotypical white US household, but I wasn't sure. Because you know, white bread, mayo and Starbucks coffee is supposedly the only thing white people eat in contrast to all the ~wow so original so exotic so many falvour~ spices that all POC supposedly use all the time.
