Dangan Ronpa, too. I followed the Let's Play for a bit, but got tired of it. Couldn't get past the first five minutes of the anime adaptation either.
Maybe it's a blessing in disguise that most anime/manga stuff I like a lot doesn't get super popular. Large fanbases can get crazy fast.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-14 05:00 am (UTC)(link)Kill La Kill is alright, but it is just so overhyped. As for SnK, I just don't want to give it another shot with how crazy the fandom is for it, it killed my interest in it.
As for Free, I just thought it was terrible. And while I do like bishounen and I'm a slash fan, I can't stand pandering. At least I can't stand the amount of blatant pandering that Free was.
It is both a blessing and curse. On one hand there's usually not a lot of crazy. On the other, there's usually not much in the way of fanart/fic and other fanworks.

I went into the first SnK few episodes pretty strong, but fizzled out somewhere in the late teens. The fandom was part of it, but knowing that Isayama decided against the ending where everybody dies and its popularity will keep it running for probably a decade or so, killed any interest in finishing it. (Also totally looking forward to when fans will call this their Attack on Titan phase instead of Naruto.)
I knew Free was fujoshi-pandering: the anime going in, but I generally like Kyoani stuff and their animation, so I figured I'd give it shot. And just didn't care enough to get very far.
I'm fortunate that fanart's more my thing, so I don't have to rely on translations, but finding places for discussion that don't suck can be hard for small fandom.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-14 05:54 am (UTC)(link)I started to read the manga way before thr anime was announced and just forgot about it. Hearing the hype and how bad the fandom was killed most of my interest. Certain plot developments killed the rest.
Blantant fujoshi pandering and pandering in general does absolutely nothing for me. I feel so alone because everybody is going gaga over Free and I just don't care for it. People told me it was good and I gave it a try. I found it to be animated well enough, but the writing was just bad. Kinda makes me feel like I'm a bad yaoi fan or something tor not liking it.
I'm greedy so I want all the fanart and tons of it. Having fandoms that don't have a lot of it sucks. And agreed so hard on the discussion bit. I'd love for more discussion for my small fandoms.
