MCU-wise, it's not canon and it's not even that popular in the fandom.

Yes, I know, it's a troll secret, but the sentiment remains - why pick THIS pairing to try and troll over?

MCU-wise, it's not canon and it's not even that popular in the fandom.

Huh? It's the third most common MCU pairing on AO3, right after Steve/Tony and Clint/Coulson. Admittedly, there's no way of knowing how often they're a main pairing and how often they're a background pairing, but even so: 3600 fics doesn't seem unpopular to me.

From what I have seen, the vast majority of these have Clint/Nat as the background pairing. I also go by not iust AO3 but fanfic elsewhere, i.e. the fact that Clint/Nat, in comparison to other pairings for those characters, doesn't get asked for much. I am not saying it isn't a popular ship, just that it isn't THAT popular and most of the popularity it ever had has waned by now/is a bit older, so why pick this pairing to troll over?
