Exactly. Even a lot of people in the fandoms she was in don't really know about the correlation. It's been a very long time.

This. Plus somebody might not even be aware of what an author's views are (Especially if it's somebody who is not exposed to fandom or the Internet at large), and thus might not be aware they are reading something by a person with a questionable (at best) RL viewpoint.
