The fact that most of you classified me as self-righteous dumbass is the reason this was a secret.

Well, you are a psych major. That alone will gain you dumbass status for a lot of people. You've chosen the easiest and most generic major, that makes Art, Business, and English degrees look downright challenging.

da Oh shut up, you arrogant snob.

Pretty much anyone who majors in psychology is either an arrogant snob themselves or screwed up and trying to figure out what's wrong with them.

There are a few who genuinely want to help others, but they're not typical.

Bullfuckingshit, seriously. Stop ~psychoanalysing the OP for choosing a field of study as a lazy ad hominem. And if you're the person who implied that a psych major meant you're stupid or lazy (I'm going to guess a specific country where it's some kind of default, gosh maybe the US), get off your high horse.

Hey man, that's a harsh generalization. I'm a traditional STEM major myself, but I know a lot of psych majors who really are nice people who want to use their degrees to help others. I think it's a lot more common for psych majors to be TOO into helping people, to the point where they have unrealistic expectations about what they'll be able to do.

How do the actual psychologists get qualified then? Or do you think they're all twats?

I'm not just going in for psychology. I'm also planning on going in for a history degree (Scandinavian preferably), massage therapy or athletic therapy, and probably equestrian studies. The trouble is finding a school that offers all of these courses.

I forgot to mention this before but, I'm going into psychology because I want to help people. As cliche as this might sound, I want to help them go from the dark place to the happy place. Speaking from personal experience I know how freeing that can be and I want to help people get to that point.

You don't have to defend yourself against that asshole OP, seriously. Wanting to help people is a great thing!
