I really didn't think you did, OP. You're learning about something awful and you're seeing it described in an almost offhand way, so that's disturbing to you. I think sometimes there can be very disturbing aspects of fandom (cf the 12 Years secret up above - I don't know if it's genuine, but I've seen plenty of other people be sincere about things like that in my time in fandom.) But in general such fics are not meant to be realistic, and are often meant to be therapeutic. Otherwise they're just written by people who are a bit naive. So I think maybe you're overreacting from a place of good intentions, but not being arrogant.
