I tend to consider dubcon to be situations that would be rape in real life, but since you're inside the characters' heads, you know they're not actually nonconsenting or don't consider themselves to be raped, or situations (that couldn't really happen) where ability to consent becomes dubious, like with sex pollen or something. It makes sense to separate these from fics where at least one of the parties is 100% obviously not consenting, since they have very different tones.
