But I don't think Keanu was the Don Juan you're thinking of. This play was written about 1598 and Tirso de Molina didn't write "The Seducer of Seville and the Stone Guest" (the first appearance of Don Juan) until thirty years later.

Oh, yeah, I know that. But when OP said "It's Don John, what were people expecting?", I thought OP meant that the character was based on Don Juan and that's why he was supposed to be evil.

I meant that Don John is pretty much a cardboard villain in the text so it's not like Keanu Reeves was ruining great Shakespearean material or anything.
