TTGL is like KLK in that it's an extremely over-the-top plot that's ruled more by Rule Of Cool than logic. However, it's much more extreme in that sense than KLK, at least from what I've seen so far. It just... keeps escalating. Also there is a lot of OTOKO POWAHHH going on.
It has a largish cast of characters, though hardly any significant women, and the women don't get to do much, either. Still, it does have some excellent characters, though I can personally say I'm liking the cast of KLK overall much more than I liked the cast of TTGL, though my favorite of them all is still Viral from TTGL because <3Viral.

The visual style in both is pretty similar, as well as the blatant animation shortcuts, though I think the overall style in KLK is more cohesive than TTGL was. TTGL was a mess, some episodes were terribly, terribly animated (and I mean.... really terrible. No words), while some looked really good.

TTGL is fun, you could say. Very exciting. It kind of pulls you along with dramarama and stuff, much like KLK, but I always have difficulty truly reccing it wholeheartedly because I'm kind of conflicted about that show overall. For me personally, it's not a masterpiece. Plotwise, I like KLK better, but I admit that the kamui designs turn me off so hard that I'd find it difficult to rec too, because it looks so pandering.

AYRT

Thanks! I wondered if it was an impossible question as I wrote it, but I only started watching anime again in the last two years, so I've been moving from current to older things I missed based on recs. I'll keep it in the consideration pile for now. I initially dropped KLK because of the pandering you mentioned, but maybe I'll just do a over-the-top Gainax/Gainax successor marathon and watch those and Panty and Stocking when I've got the time. If I hate them, I can always put on FLCL after, haha.

You're welcome!

If you're looking for recs I could try to field stuff your way, but my preferences fall towards plot+no fanservice, preference for coherence over Rule of Cool, characterization, not slice-of-life, type things. Tell me if that sort of stuff sounds appealing, and I can make some suggestions ^^

I appreciate it, but I actually have a decent-sized list with those exact descriptors because that's why I tend to prefer, too c: Thanks for the offer!
