It's fun when you get something cool out of it, but not when you're the one who did the cool-gift purchasing. In three out of four of my past relationships, I got a rare fandom item my ex had been wanting (usually expensive), while the most they got me was the generic shit like off-brand candy or a not-very-cute teddy. Nothing "from the heart" that said they paid attention to my interests. I would have even liked something cheap, like a pack of trading cards or a candy I actually did like.

You must have better luck than I do, OP. At least your shitty relationship got you swag.

Yeah, it wasn't until I was out of one long-term relationship that I noticed just HOW one-way the money/gift movement between us had been.
