It's pretty easy to see Xander's POV if you've ever been caught up in a tangle of emotions and the person they concern is also tangled up and you both make grievous mistakes that hurt each other.

Being caught up in emotion really does not excuse treating people poorly.

Part of being in a healthy relationship is learning to control your emotions during bad situations so that you don't disrespect the other person. Sure, mistakes happen, but when they do, you take responsibility and admit to being wrong, not say "well I was caught up in emotion, so..."

Feeling it is one thing, expressing it or thinking that your feelings of possessiveness mean you actually own the other person is another. Feelings are hard to control. Actions are not.
