I really don't know how this all works, but I've followed a few journals of characters relevant to mine and I'm going to see how they do things.

I don't even know how games would work on Tumblr :/ is anyone here familiar with Tumblr RP? I feel like I'm coming across RP terms I haven't before, as well!

I haven't started RPing yet - I wrote my character's history, personality, and details about the mun (age, RP experience, etc.). But I don't want to jump into it just yet.

I have no idea what a magic anon is!

Yeah, right? Like, you could do crazy shit with that! The Magic School Bus's trip to Isla Nublar! The trip to the Breach! The Magic School Bus goes into deep space!

...Admittedly most of my wishing for an MSB RP is due to my wish that they were still making episodes. |D Even next gen ones would be cool! I mean, with how much new stuff we're learning about space, about the rainforests, about animals that we didn't knew existed! It would be so cool!

Yeah? What fandom are you RPing for, may I ask? (I'm assuming it's fandom? Most of the ones I've seen are fandom, but I guess it could also be OC's?)

Magic Anon's are fun! First you decide if you want to accept them or not; (not everyone does). Then, while you're RPing, there are two ways to go about it:

way 1) a magic anon might show up and say something like "magic anon here saying that your character can only tell the truth for (period of time)" (or some other action), then you have to RP your character as performing that action. The actions can affect they way your character interacts with others (telling the truth, for example), how your character is perceived by others (character is genderbent or turned into a monster) or it can just fuck with their heads(character has nightmares). (Those are just some examples; the actual magic anons are limited to the anon's imagination only)

way 2) you see an askbox meme post, and you reblog it. Someone sends you one of the things from that post, and you rp that thing for a certain amount of time. There's a blog for them here. My favorites are the nightmare one, and the death one, and here's an example of the lists.

But, it's up to you if you want to do them or not; not every RP'er does them, and sometimes people will say things like "magic anon open from now until Tuesday" or whatever, and only accept m!a over that time period, and that's considered proper etiquette as well (as far as I know).

I asked this a little while ago and didn't get an answer, and you seem like you might know.

How do you customize your "so-and-so started following you" and "so-and-so replied to you" messages? Several of the Tumblr RPers who I stalk have theirs customized to something character-relevant but I can't figure out what I need to do to change it.

I don't actually, I'm sorry. :( All of my knowledge comes from watching other people RP, but I haven't actually done it myself yet... ^^; If I ever figure it out, I'll post it in the GC, yes?

OMG magic anons sound so adorable!! I RP Fran for Final Fantasy XII. Thank you so much for those links :) Those sound like a lot of fun and definitely something that could help boost me into this. Interesting that you should mention etiquette! That's something I kinda worry about. I know some players who will only play as 'serious RPers' and don't play with anyone who isn't serious. I feel like they're too cool for me atm lmao

Yeah! Sometimes people don't like them, but it's really up to the individual RPer. :3

Yeah, IDK, if that's what they want to do, they're welcome to it, but I'd be too scared to try and RP with them, even if I'd been RPing for a long time. |D

I totally know what you mean. I've been RPing for 7 years ;_; and I just never managed to RP with them. It's really hard to play pretend with people who take it super seriously :O

It's been a while since I've done tumblr RPs, but generally what I find happens is that if you follow people, they'll start an RP thread going "So-and-so followed you" and write it in-character. So you can always check and see if any of the people you've followed have started one. Either that or PM them about starting a thread. I'm assuming you're an independent RPer and not affiliated with any RP groups? That's all I can think of for now.

And yeah, magic anons are a thing. Some of them make up some really weird shit that I just ignored because I didn't want to RP my character through that scenario.

I see, so that's what independent RPer means :o I see that a lot. I actually wondered how games would work, since in LJ or DW, you typically post in that community (unless journal-based).

So with magic anons, does your character know something's going on? Like if mine was to have to tell the truth, would she answer a question and after be like "what is going on"?

Different players handle it differently.

I've seen some people play it as their character being totally unaware that they're doing anything unusual (especially if the magic anon did something mind-afffecting). Others have them definitely notice that something happened but not know why ('wtf I woke up as a dragon!'). Some even have their characters aware of magic anons as A Thing, and they'll not only recognize it when it happens but actually discuss the phenomenon with other characters.

And some people will mix-and-match those approaches depending on what seems the most appropriate or entertaining at the time.
