My sales pitch?

I hate audiobooks and podfics. Yet, I really like Welcome to Night Vale. The writers are aware of the medium they are working with and write accordingly. Every episode is technically self-contained but you will find that there is an overall plot if you pay attention. There are many reoccurring characters that you can get to know and get to enjoy as you see their stories slowly unfold. The main character, the narrator, is a very interesting person who changes as time goes on.

I happen to like the narrator's voice. It's smooth and nice to my ear. As a warning, you may find his voice a bit flat in the first few episodes but he very quickly starts emoting quite a bit and is definitely someone you can get attached to.

This is something you can get emotionally invested in beyond "cute boys in love" and "creepy thing happening". The last episode I found myself pausing due to a section of foreshadowing that caused me to freak out in both excitement and fear.

Also, if you need something to look at while you listen there are many people who have written transcripts so that you can follow along.

Lastly, it's fun. It's something I look forward to and use as a reward for myself for thing. It's refreshing and each episode is only about 30 minutes long. In the end, it's nice.

I don't actually have much to add to this other than to say I completely agree and find this accurate and well said. Cecil does have a nice voice but I've listened to some of the earlier episodes again recently and you're right, it is a bit flat at first. It gets much, much better; Cecil's voice makes me smile.

(I paused the last episode in fear and had to steel myself for what came next. That's never happened to me with WTNV before.)

I LOVEEEEEEEE the self-contained plots, they're easy to follow and all quite intriguing on their own right, but when the overarching story starts coming together it's possibly even better.

A lot of other things I look forward to either have a super long wait (some games) or can be difficult to keep up with because of the frequency of the release (tv shows, especially ones with longer seasons); I like that WTNV updates twice a month, it's perfect for me and gives me something to look forward to.

(IMO it's better and more entertaining than a lot of things I'm currently into as well.)

I'm pretty much agreeing with you agreeing.

Though I think both of us missed a big thing. The music. I happen to like the music. It's new and not something I would normally have access to. I like some more than others but I'm grateful to have least listened to all of the songs at least once. Some have become favorites of mine and I very happily listen to them in the shower.

Now, I know some people don't like the music. This can be easily solved by just skipping ahead a few minutes. Then the music does not have to be listened to.

This is very true. I'm almost half and half - some of it I don't like, some I really do, but I like hearing new music and it's interesting to hear what song the crew pick out for each episode.

Is it a free-to-listen podcast?

Yes it is. You can listen to it here. There is one episode not there but it's very far in the future. If and when you do need to listen to it you can find it on youtube. It's called Condos.

If you have any other question I'm here to help.
