I'm kind of surprised you gave those examples. Like, if you'd brought up tsunamis or natural disasters that's one thing, but the whole point of free will is that people are free to be horrible people if they want. So blaming God for something another human did doesn't make theological sense if you believe in free will.

Natural disasters are a good argument against a benevolent God. But I'm not sure that the whole "free will" means that God's off the hook for not protecting the innocent against the horrible things people do to one another. Especially because as destructive as natural disasters are, they're outstripped by the evil acts people perpetrate on other people.

If that's what you call theological sense, well, I think you've hit upon a good reason for why I'm not religious. I have no idea why anyone would find that a legitimate excuse.
