I really like that moment, because it establishes that Kocoum is desirable by someone worthy like Nakoma, which made it more meaningful when Pocahontas didn't want him. Most Disney characters are presented only one choice in romance, and if there's another, he's usually very undesirable for some reason. I liked that Pocahontas had preferences.
