I feel you, OP. It can be very frustrating to pour a lot of time, thought and effort into a fic and then see it languish in the no one cares corner, while something you wrote on the fly and for the id rakes in all the attention.

Thing is, most people read fanfic to feed their id. That's why porn is so popular. Write some hot smut/cute fluff/angsty hc for the fandom's main pairing and watch the hit counter go.

OTOH, idfic is, for the most part, easily forgotten as well as interchangable. I read a ton of porn, but please don't ask me about the titles of those stories becuase I didn't really care. I was there for the delicious smut, not for the writing or the plot or anything. That plotty fic you wrote? If it's quality writing (and I'm just going to assume it is), it will stick with people, because chances are that it's something new. Yes, you'll have fewer readers, but those you do have are there because they really like your ideas.

Be proud of what you do. And while it's ok to feel stung, remember that even if it seems that no one else cares, YOU did (and really, other people do care).
