I agree with you, not because I write fic, but because I often don't enjoy the self indulgent fics that feel like no work was put into them. And I've seen that squeeing feedback loop make an author take fics from decent and serious straight over to crack to pander to those loud people. Fandom is self indulgent, so a lot of people want that and it's a little cumbersome to those of us who like a little more substance and a little less porno with new names, etc. Ok, I'll stop insulting crap I don't like so bad.
But the point is. I've seen very awesome, long, epic and emotionally sweeping fanfiction get next to no reviews. I've seen fics written by day job successful professional authors get no reviews. Heck, I've seen them actually have flame campaigns leveled against them because their complex world building was 'toooooo AU'. So I wouldn't worry about it too much. But do try to check your balance. Research is often a necessity for writing, but it can really clutter it up if you don't work it carefully into a piece.
